About Me: Why “Ambi-Asian”?

ambi-Asian: my friends describe me as an ambivert, and ‘ambi-cultural’ as a Western-born Asian third culture kid. After flying between Australia and Asia for various reasons — studies, internships, making friends and visiting relatives — I moved permanently to Asia, and find out what meaningful things I can learn and do for my motherland — and mother region, after learning the many values and opportunities Asian cultures share.

I’m a believer in bringing humanity mack to capitalism; after all, allowing people to make a living and express their humanity through their craft. I draw inspiration from experiences in business strategy, venture capital, tech startups, an MBA, and interfaith dialogue and the spirituality behind the religions and cultures I learn about.

A = Ambition. My friends describe me as driven. I hope to help people find out, and act upon, what matters most to them, so that they can be motivated to find the right careers and make the right impact in life.

M = MBA learnings. I studied my MBA to do a ‘triple jump’ (changing geography, industry, and job function) — during COVID. I hope to share learnings from my move. I hope to share what I learned, so you can figure out if an MBA is right for you and make the most of it — or learn what you can from an MBA without doing one yourself if you don’t want to.

B = Business. I was raised between Australia and Southeast Asia, living, studying and working across both regions. My mixed upbringing motivates me to find and grow the businesses and industries that can drive inclusive growth, development, and competitiveness in the APAC region’s economies and communities. I analyse business trends from a hybrid Asian-Western perspective.

I = Introspection. I’m passionate about interfaith dialogue; my interfaith dialogue activities have inspired my belief in seeing careers, business, and life through the lens of one’s deeper purpose.

Asian. There are many blogs on these topics, but I’ve felt that most bring a European or American perspective. I hope to demystify the Asia-Pacific region and understand when wisdom from the West translates to APAC, and what’s different.

To those who have followed my writing and muses on this journey, thank you for your continued feedback and support. To those joining me, thank you too, and I hope you find the learnings that I share insightful and fulfilling.
